MATERIALS HANDLING EQUIPMENT CAN NOW OPERATE MORE RELIABLY BY USING CELESCO'S CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT TRANSDUCER |

Canoga Park, CA -- Materials handling vehicles, such as fork lifts and AGVs,
use telescoping masts for retrieving materials stored on upper shelves to ground
level. To operate efficiently and safely, it is essential that the vehicle's
telescoping mast have a position feedback signal. Typically, discrete or
multi-staged measurement devices such as proximity switches are used, but they
are imprecise, costly, difficult to install, and must be periodically remounted
to maintain perfect alignment. Measurement products that use encoders on wheels
or belts have not proven reliable since they frequently slip and cannot maintain
constant friction. Now there is an ideal measurement solution. Celesco's PT9150 is a continuous measurement, cable-extension transducer that takes only minutes to install, does not require perfect parallel alignment and it provides reliable and precise position measurements without the need for periodic adjustments. Simply mount its body to a stationary surface and attach its cable is attached to the top stage of the telescoping mast. As the mast ascends, pulling the PT9150's stainless-steel cable with it, the transducer's incremental optical encoder provides a continuous output of pulses which can be used to determine the mast's linear extension or velocity. (An internal spring motor maintains constant tension on the cable for retraction.) Position measurements are made by summing the number of pulses. Velocity measurements are made by computing the number of pulses generated per unit of time. The PT9150 is accurate to 0.04%, repeatable to 0.02% Full Stroke. With its incremental optical encoder and industrial design, this rugged able-extension transducer provides the highest accuracy and longest life of any measurement device of its kinds. The PT9150 is available in a variety of resolutions and output stages to fit virtually any requirement. The PT9150 can handle the rigors of warehouses and other industrial environments. Its sealed cylindrical housing is based on NEMA 4 standards, protecting electrical components from dust and other debris. It is available in measurement ranges up to 1200 inches (45,000 mm) for as low as only $1 per measurement inch. When its cable is retracted it is only 152mm long. Its small size and low-cost-to-measurement ratio offers remarkable flexibility and value. The PT9150 is part of Celesco's complete family of linear position and velocity transducers. Many Celesco transducers operate in temperature ranges from 0 degree F to 200 degree F. Their resolution is essentially infinite. They are available in measurement ranges from 0" to 2" to 0" to 1750" and they are used in a variety of other applications--from hydraulic ram monitoring in metal stamping plants, valve monitoring in hydrelectric plants, speed monitoring of extrusion presses, to motion synchronization of hydraulic lifts. Celesco's families of industrial-grade transducers are available in a variety of measurement ranges and mechanical and electrical options. For shorter position measurement ranges, Celesco offers it PT8000 Series and for longer ranges it has the PT9000 Series - which both use stainless steel cables. For applications requiring rotational position feedback, Celsesco offers the RT8000 and RT9000 Series. Celesco, headquartered in Canoga Park, California, designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of transducers and related precision instruments. The company has a 25-year history of designing and manufacturing cable-extension transducers that provide superior reliability and durability. OEMs and end users choose Celesco transducers because of their high accuracy, resolution, and repeatability. Celsco is the world's largest supplier of cable-extension position transducers which are used to detect and measure linear position and velocity. The company, founded in 1968, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tedea, Ltd. |
