MONITORING POSITION AND VELOCITY MADE EASIER WITH CELESCO'S COMPACT AND FLEXIBLE INDUSTRIAL-GRADE TRANSDUCER |

Canoga Park, CA -- Factories and other rugged environments a requiring an
industrial-grade measurement device for monitoring both position and velocity can
now use compact and easy to install solution that provides a 0-10 VDC position
and a +/-10 VDC velocity signal. Celesco Transducer Products, Inc. has just
introduced its Model PT8301 position and velocity transducer. It measures
positions from 2 to 60 inches and velocities from 10 to 20,000 inches per minute
-- delivering the same high-level analog output signal at all measurement ranges
and velocities.
The PT8301 is ideal for use in injection moulding and extrusion machines because it provides velocity vs. position data essential for tuning machine processes. It can be installed in minutes, fitted into precarious areas and does not require perfectly parallel alignment. The PT8301 measures position and velocity via the motion of a spring-loaded cable. Its cable is attached to the moving object, and the transducer housing to a fixed surface. As the cable extends and retracts, it rotates the shaft of a precision potentiometer creating a 0 to 10 VDC signal proportional to the cable's position from the transducer's body. Unique to the PT8301 is a circuit which converts the change in resistance of the sensing potentiometer per unit time into a -10 VDC to + 10 VDC output proportional to the velocity of the cable. The breakthrough in this circuit is its flexibility. The transducer can be configured and calibrated to provide a full-scale (10 VDC) output at any velocity range between 10 and 20,000 inches per minute. It is a member of Celesco's innovative PT8000 series of NEMA 4-rated cable-extension transducers. Their sealed cylindrical housing protects electrical components from environmental elements such as: dust, splashes of water, hydraulic fluid and oil. Page 2 -Celesco Introduces Position and Velocity Transducer With 0-10V Signal Celesco's PT8000 series has an uncomplicated internal configuration for simplified and reliable measurement. Its design also allows the sensor to be mounted away from harmful elements, providing additional safeguards. Unlike rigid rod- or wand-type transducers which require perfectly parallel, precision installation and must be readjusted when machinery's movements loosen over time, the PT8301 does not require movement in a perfectly parallel line. Since it utilizes a flexible cable rather than a rigid, thick rod, the PT8301 is not prone to being tripped over or to interfere with other machinery's operations. Its small size to measurement ratio offers similar benefits. When retracted, the PT8301 series is only 6 inches tall yet can measure up to 60 inches. Its potentiometric output has virtually infinite resolution, with linearity varying from .25% for short ranges to 0.1% Full Scale for longer ranges. Celesco, headquartered in Canoga Park, California, designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of transducers and related precision instruments. The company is the world's largest supplier of cable-extension position transducers which are used to detect and measure linear position and velocity. Its other families of transducers are used for measuring rotational position and differential pressure. Celesco also manufactures thermocouple reference junctions. OEMs and end users choose Celesco transducers because of their high accuracy, resolution, and repeatability. The company, founded in 1968, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tedea, Ltd.
